More Lao New Years celebrations

As part of Lao New Years celebrations, the entire town of Luang Prabang takes boats to the other side of the Mekong river. They build stupas along the shorebanks and the celebrations continue.

The Beer Lao and Lao-Lao (Lao whiskey) was flowing... There was plenty of partying going on.

I think the craziest thing I saw that day (and there were a lot of them, believe me), was rocket launching from a bamboo platform. Apparently, villages make a rocket, pack it with gun powder, and launch it from a 30 foot bamboo "ladder". Whichever gets the furtherest, wins! A few just blew up while still attached to the platform with the launchers still on it. Gotta love bamboo construction technology.

And of course there was plenty of dancing in the streets and water throwing. Gotta love a place where they still do the electric slide and toss water on each other. This is in front of my guesthouse, the workers were dancing to celebrate New Years(plus grandma).
