Happy (Laos) New Years! The festivities officially are underway today, but the water throwing has actually started much earlier. Today though, was different. Business closed, doors shut, windows shuttered, and the music was turned up. Time to celebrate!
It started off with groups of teenage boys throwing water, especially on girls (no big suprise there).
Even some monks were ambushing people passing by
After awhile, you get really tired of being singled out. I've spent most of the past 3 days wet, I don't know why I even bother wearing anything else but a bathing suit. So you have to start arming yourself for a watergun bike-by...
Of course the foreigners have to join in the fun too
We're actually much meaner with the water than the locals. Tourists have been squirting people on motorbikes in the eyes and opening up passing car doors to douse the passengers. And you have to wonder why everyone targets the foreigners with water buckets...
Water eventually led to flour being tossed today and cooking grease smeared on faces.
Woo-hoo! Happy New Years!
